Tell your Maryland legislators to support legislation HB 109 & SB 285
The bill, sponsored by Delegate Lierman and Senator Kagan, will ban disposable single-use food containers made from expanded polystyrene, commonly known as styrofoam, beginning in 2020.
Plastic pollution is threatens our oceans. If we don’t’ change our present course, there will propably be more plastic than fish floating in the seas within 30 years.
Styrofoam food containers are a major contributor to ocean pollution. This material is almost indestructible and is not recyclable. Styrofoam breaks into minute pieces, absorbs toxins, and is often mistaken for food by marine life resulting in the injury and death of fish, seabirds, and marine mammals.
Several counties and cities in Maryland have successfully banned styrofoam food containers. Now we have a chance to ban them statewide.
