Dear RCC Supporter, This fall, the Rachel Carson Council is hosting the event of the season and we wanted you to be the first to sign up. On Saturday, October 5th and 10 am, we’re leading a FREE riverboat cruise along with the Southern Forests Conservation Coalition on Wilmington, North Carolina’s Cape Fear river to talk wood pellets. National policy experts, conservation biologists, and community advocates will highlight the environmental justice, ecological, and climate implications of the wood pellet biomass industry that has set up shop right in your backyard. You’ll traverse the Cape Fear for two hours on the riverboat, the Henrietta, hearing from experts and your neighbors about Big Biomass corporations such as Enviva and Drax that clear cut forests, pollute local communities, and worsen our climate crisis. While you’re admiring the complex and beautiful ecosystem of North Carolina’s coast, you’ll see facilities operated by Enviva, the very corporation polluting the river, the city of Wilmington, and the world over. But most importantly: you’ll learn how to take action. The trip will summon environmental activists, students, and scientists from around the country but we wanted our North Carolina supporters to be the first to know about this unique, interactive opportunity to engage with one of the most pressing national environmental issues right here in your home state. The trip will depart from 101 S Water Street, Wilmington, North Carolina at 10 am and will dock at 12 pm. Please reach out to claudia@rachelcarsoncouncil.org with any questions. You can read more about the pernicious environmental, climate, and public health impacts of the wood pellet biomass from RCC’s three publications on the industry. | |
