Dear RCC Supporter, Right now, in Adel, Georgia, activists are calling for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to crack down on the notorious wood pellet manufacturer, Spectrum Energy. Citing concerns of hazardous air, South Georgia residents and the Concerned Citizens of Cook County (4C), led by Dr. Treva Gear, have asked the state court in a lawsuit filed by the Southern Environmental Law Center to revoke an air permit granted to Spectrum. It was approved by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) despite the known environmental and public health hazards of wood pellet manufacture. You can help stop this environmental injustice! Although Adel is an official EPA-designated environmental justice community, local authorities have sanctioned the construction and permit renewals of wood pellet plants in the western side of the city where residents are predominantly Black and Brown and live in low-income housing. The people of Adel say they have suffered from poor air quality long enough! The concerns of Adel and 4C have been ignored and dismissed for too long! If local authorities won’t protect environmental justice communities, you can bring it to the attention of federal agencies. That’s why we’re asking you to write EPA Region 4 Administrator Daniel Blackman to step in and protect Georgia’s residents from the insidious effects of wood pellet manufacture. | |
