Dear RCC Supporter, The ESA Amendments Act of 2025 is about to destroy a 50-year-old cornerstone piece of legislation. The Endangered Species Act (ESA) has successfully prevented the extinction of 99 percent of listed species, including the American Bald Eagle. This new bill will prioritize billion-dollar industry interests and gut the science-based decision making protecting our threatened species and habitat. We need your help to protect our lands and wildlife from short-term profit and greed. What is the ESA Amendments Act of 2025? The ESA Amendments Act of 2025 aims to dismantle key provisions of the ESA by redefining core terms, removing the assumption of habitat protection, and restricting the use of science in decision-making. It seeks to curtail the ESA’s effectiveness in order to accelerate industrial development–particularly in the logging, mining, fossil fuel, and construction sectors–by removing obstacles that the original ESA bill provides to delay or block permits due to environmental concerns. Why Should We Oppose It? The ESA Amendments Act of 2025 is a direct threat to endangered species and the integrity of science-based environmental policy. Stripping habitat protections and curbing federal authority would place countless species at risk and compromise the basis of 50 years of conservation progress, not to mention destroying our vital ecosystems and lands. 84% of Americans support the unamended Endangered Species Act.[1] [1] Vucetich, John A., et al.
