Common Raven - Ross Feldner

The Common Raven has been a bird of lore and a mysterious symbol to humans for thousands of years. It is one of the smartest birds in the world with a well-earned reputation for solving complex problems including tool usage and has learned to benefit from staying close to humans.

Common Ravens, like humans, have the ability to think abstractly, adapting their behavior by attributing their own perceptions to others. They are one of only four known animals (the others being bees, ants, and humans) who have demonstrated displacement, the capacity to communicate about objects or events that are distant in space or time.

Common Ravens are extremely versatile and opportunistic in finding food, feeding on carrion, insects, cereal grains, berries, fruit, small animals, nesting birds, and food waste.

They thrive in varied climates and have the largest range of any member of its genus including North America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Amazing in flight, they are known for spectacular aerobatic displays, such as flying in loops or interlocking talons with each other in flight.

They will engage in games with other species, such as playing catch-me-if-you-can with wolves, otters and dogs.
